The long living computer giant Microsofttm Inc. has been making the splash with their latest flagship operating system Windows 8(R) , This is no news at all to tech-novorious people like us who started using the Microsoft windows 8 Operating System from the very first day the beta windows 8 developer / customer preview versions of the operating system was lunched , Though I personally couldn’t lay my hands on the x64 bit version ‘cos I soon left for vacation and had limited access to the internet .
The greatest challenge however seems to be the ease of managing all the awesome features that comes with the windows 8 including the tile menu along with what we are already used to in previous versions. I encouraged some of the earlier adopters I happened to chat with to stick with using shortcuts keys as that could save them some time till they are used to all of it’s new features.
1. Deceived by Tech Geeks:
This is actually the problem most people are having today , No doubt the Latest Microsoft windows 8(R)Operating System features are so amazing and mind blowing too but that shouldn’t be an excuse for you to lose your valuable data stored on the usb / removable storage disk . Most of you don’t get the line above “Deceived by Tech Geeks” was the line a user of my forum screamed after trying out several data recovering software on windows 8 without success for his usb disk that was damaged as a result of “not using the safely remove hardware Icon” to eject his disk drive after reading about how useless it was from a tech geek. 100% true is the fact that windows 8 operating system is optimized for speed and you can harmlessly remove your drive without using the safely remove hardware icon .. A simple step like hitting ctrl +r on your keyboard and entering ‘diskmgmt.msc’ selecting your drive + right clicking on it and choosing policy will take you to this window seen in the pix below
where you can see that the default settings allows you to pull out your drive without using “safely remove hardware” . But my stance is since you don’t know how many background programs on windows 8 that might be accessing your drive even after you must have exited all the program you actually initiated, you need simply use the damn icon to be on the safer side after all it takes less than five seconds .
2. Write Caching:
Many at times we lost count of the many advance settings we ‘ve changed on the computer and may not even tell when we ‘ve selected the Better Performance option, where Windows machine will cache data instead of writing it to the USB device immediately. This will improve your device’s overall performance – nonetheless, data corruption is much more likely to occur if you unplug the USB device without using the “Safely Remove Hardware Icon”. If caching is enabled, Windows won’t write the data to your USB device immediately – even if the data appears to ‘ve been written to the device and all file progress dialogs are closed, the data may just be cached on your system.
But immediately you eject the device using the safely remove hardware option , Windows will flush the write cache to the disk, ensuring all necessary changes are made before notifying you when it’s safe to remove the drive.
3. Many Drives Are Fake and Lacks Stability :
There is no telling the number of fake usb sticks out there this days that’s why I do recommend cooperate bodies to buy promotional usb sticks from renown and reputable Computer hardware sellers like ebay.co.uk , newegg.com , usbtrader.com and etc. that has over the years proven to be trusted seller of reliable drives. Using the safely remove hardware icon on your windows 8 machine will reduce the chances of damaging / corrupting files on your usb storage media irrespective of fake or original .
4. Many anti-virus Programs are no longer Reliable :
There are situation where there is a better & up-to date anti-virus program in your workplace machine when there aren’t in your personal one . Most of the background program causing data error and messages like “error deleting files and the like” are caused by computer virus and as such using safely remove hardware reduces the chance of losing your data giving you the chance to scan your drive in a better machine thereafter.
5. It’s’ve been one of the best practices over the years :
Even before the windows 8 surfaced It’s has always been a good practice to safely remove your USB flash drive before unplugging it from your computer. This for sure prevents data loss and extends the life of your external storage device. Removing the damn flash drive from your computer after all is very easy and doesn’t take a long time to do.
6. It’s Effortless :
The last reason you need use the “safely remove hardware Icon” on your windows 8 os is because you wouldn’t bee sweating after-all to do that and it takes less that 5 seconds too . This makes it safer for your drive and data too
